I graduated from the UC Santa Barbara with a BS in Psychological & Brain Sciences and a minor in Professional Writing & Editing. During this time, I mentored under Dr. Julie Spencer-Rodgers as a lab manager in cross-cultural cognition and health psychology research. We studied the association between having taken a Health Psychology course and undergraduate students’ levels of stress and health self-efficacy, lending to my co-authorship on a manuscript currently in press. Additionally, I assisted Dr. Spencer-Rodgers in her work toward publishing the Dialectical Self Scale, which has been used in its unpublished form for many major contributions to the literature on cross-cultural psychology and East Asian cognitive styles. Having had the opportunity to explore human cognition on a macroscale, I am now excited to investigate the neural mechanisms that underlie these processes in the brain. At the Cai Lab, I am working with Joe Zaki to study the neural ensembles involved in memory integration across disparate time periods. Outside of the lab, I enjoy roaming around the city and meeting random dogs along the way. madeline.bacon@mssm.edu
